Modelling World 2019 – Lester shares his views on the event
Our Business Development & Account Manager Lester shares his thoughts on attending the Modelling World exhibition earlier in the month
We attended Modelling World 2019 which brings together public and commercial organisations looking at how to model future towns, cities and infrastructure. Our focus on the stand was to promote our Travel Time and Accessibility Analysis tool TRACC, which is used by both public and private users to ensure future transport is sustainable and meets ever increasing needs for connectivity. There were over 20 stands and around 250 attendees, we had several conversations with Transport Planners who are keen to understand what TRACC can provide around safe pedestrian routes and wider integrated transport planning. Transport for London were interested in finding out more about TRACC and how it could support the work they do around Transport Analysis.

I attended a session where Oxford County Council reflected on their change in approach to modelling future infrastructure and the increasing need for it to be research based, using analytical data to inform key planning decisions. Oxford were certain future journey analysis needed to be dictated by the best multi-modal option rather than looking at each mode in isolation.

We had some fantastic conversations including with an Australian CEO who is in the UK seeing how we approach modelling and spoke about the need to ensure data is accurate and reliable. The DfT presented and made specific mention of Basemap’s TRACC software in helping them with journey time statistics and the invaluable detail it provided to them.

The day had a great buzz and we were busy introducing TRACC to new potential customers as well as seeing a few old faces and discussing how they are using TRACC currently. A good event for Basemap and we look forward to returning next year!
