London Marathon – where to watch it & how to get there

This Sunday (28th April) 42,000 runners will take to the streets for the 2019 London Marathon including professional and amateur runners who will take on the 26.2 mile course.

With huge crowds expected to watch this popular event, The Week magazine has identified the top pubs to get the best view of the runners with celebrities taking part including Eastenders cast members, Chris Evans and Andy Murray who is the official starter of the race. You can choose the best pub depending on which bit of the race you’d like to see – The Mudchute Kitchen (E14 3HP), The Parlour in Canary Wharf (E14 5FW), Brown Butlers Wharf in Tower Hill (SE1 2YG)  and at the finish the Bucking Arms in St James’ Park (SW1H 9EU). As these pubs are so well located for the marathon route they are bound to be very busy so we have created some public transport travel maps to get you to the pub in time to grab a drink and settle down before the race starts.

This map has been created using our TRACC software and calculates journey times to the pubs travelling by train, tram and tube. As the main race starts at 10am we have shown travel times between 7am-10am to give you enough time to get to one of the recommended pubs and get a good spot.

A massive good luck to all those running on Sunday from everyone at Basemap, and for everyone watching, we hope you enjoy the race and have a good view!
